My research interests include earth surface process modelling, river erosion, sediment transport and deposition, predicting and inverting basin stratigraphy, mechanics of upper crustal extension, gravity instabilities of sedimentary deltas, deformation pattern of normal faulting, mechanics of low-angle normal fault, formation of listric normal fault, and forward modelling of tectonic deformation.
My recent work focuses on Earth surface processes controlled by climate and its interaction with tectonic deformation, as well as how these processes together have shaped Earth’s topography as we see today. This is achieved by numerical simulations of tectonic and surface processes. On this subject, we develop a new efficient numerical method to couple river erosion and sediment deposition in a large-scale landscape evolution model for inverse analysis, which requires a large number of forward simulations. We undertake the inverse analysis of two sediment-routing systems in an attempt to unravel the history of river erosion, climate, and tectonics that is compatible with the observed geometry of stratigraphy. Quantifying the dynamics of river incision, continental sediment deposition is a fundamental problem in geomorphology that has great relevance for our understanding of landscape evolution. We develop a new efficient method to solve fluvial incision model taking into account continental sediment deposition. The new model can be used to invert for paleo-climatic and tectonic conditions by comparing sediment deposition in sediment-routing systems.
