The Strategic Themes Organisational Unit (STR) is responsible for supporting the Scientific Executive Director in the planning and continuous development of short and long-term scientific strategies, activities and projects at the GFZ.

Key tasks include initiating and overseeing cross-functional coordination processes in the course of establishing priorities and foci within GFZ’s strategic science framework as well as providing sound analysis and deliberative assessments to underpin effective decision-making at executive level.

In addition to coordinating the GFZ journal "System Earth", STR supports the Scientific Advisory Board.
