Section 5.1 | Data and Information Management

The section Data and Information Management is your service partner for questions on all aspects of scientific publishing.

Our services are centered on the preparation, dissemination and archiving of scientific results. We deal with all products of scientific work: text publication, research data, software, outreach material. The FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) are our guidance for supporting open science as a paradigm for digital science.

The Data and Information Management Section operates the joint library of the Albert Einstein Science Park as a central infrastructure. This was set up on the basis of an agreement between the GFZ, PIK and AWI Potsdam institutions. Today's RIFS Potsdam joined this agreement in 2011. The library sees itself as a service facility for scientific publishing on the Telegrafenberg. It is maintained by the research institutions AWI, GFZ, PIK and RIFS for the joint use and indexing of the library holdings on Telegrafenberg. For this purpose, it provides printed and electronic media as well as information required for current research.

The library is open to lecturers and students at university institutions as well as anyone interested in geoscientific issues. The “data group” of the Data and Information Management Section specialises in research data management and offers services for the citable publication and archiving of curated research data and scientific software via their central research infrastructure GFZ Data Services. In addition, it offers the registration and cataloguing of IGSN - International Generic Sample Numbers for physical samples. A major focus of its work is to support the implementation of the FAIR principles [GFZ-Intranet] for research data management through comprehensive, standardized metadata and the digital linking of publications, data, samples, persons and institutions through unique persistent identifiers (DOI, IGSN, ORCID, ROR).
