Tsunami-Risk

The target of this integrated and interdisciplinary project involving many German institutions and their Indonesian partners is to reduce the impact of tsunamis triggered by volcanic flank collapses or submarine or coastal landslides. Our contribution is a feasibility testing of methods to detect potentially dangerous collapse events in seismic records based on backprojection of surface waves, and provide a means to discriminate regular earthquakes from flank failure events based on the spectral composition of landslide events vs earthquakes.
