GeoLaB is the geothermal underground research laboratory (URL) of the Helmholtz Centers KIT, GFZ, and UFZ in cooperation with TU Darmstadt and BGE, currently under development. Within a close cooperation of the GFZ sections Geoenergy, Geomechanics and Scientific Drilling, and Subsurface Imaging, we are investigating potential sites of the future URL using seismic surveying. We aim at gaining high-resolution images of near-surface structures in the crystalline underground (200 m - 600 m below surface), in order to assess the site's suitability for the deployment of the URL.
